Super Bowl LVIII

Super Bowl weekend is upon us and I am so excited! I have been enjoying watching all the coverage from Vegas this week. They are all over it! It will be a rematch of Super Bowl 54 and as a 49er fan I am hoping we will get our revenge on the Chiefs and more importantly successfully secure our 6th Super Bowl title. Putting us back in a 3-way tie with the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers franchises with the most Super Bowl Championships.

The Kansas City Chiefs have the home field advantage, which is determined by simply rotating between conferences each year. Last year the NFC Eagles had home field advantage in the Super Bowl, this year it is the AFC Chiefs and next year it will be back to the NFC and so on. Home Field advantage means you get the superior NFL practice facility plus you get to select which uniforms you would like to wear. The Chiefs will be in their red jerseys and the 49ers will be donning their traditional road whites. The Niners will get to pick heads or tails in the coin toss.

I do not want to be a forty whiner as some salty fans (raider) call us, but this whole spongey field seems like a big disadvantage. I heard hall framer Jeff Saturday say that a spongey field is the worst type of field to play on. It is wild to me that they would install real grass on top of turf. What is worse is that they waited until just last week to tend to the field. It is something that should have been addressed two months ago when UNLV’s college football season ended. It is the Super Bowl! I understand they are probably doing very light practicing and walk throughs this week but let us not forget how we lost our star Nick Bosa in 2020…a loose artificial turf which led to an array of injuries. I am glad we have moved passed that now. It does not seem like there was much else to do as the Chiefs reportedly refused to change their practice schedule so the Niners could share the $1.9 Billion-dollar Allegiant stadium with them. Also, did you hear about the 6am fire alarm that went off at the 49er’s hotel for ten minutes? What the? Let these men rest!

Reba McEntire will be signing our National Anthem. She always brings it, love her. Post Malone is performing “America the Beautiful”, which should be a nice and unique rendition. Then we have Andra Day who will sing “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” Honestly never heard of her or the song before, so hopefully that will be a fun surprise. In a last-minute change DJ Kaskade is stepping in as the in-game DJ for Tiesto who can’t make it as originally planned due to a family emergency. Then we of course we have our main man, Usher! As an old millennial I am looking forward to seeing him sing and dance. These past few halftime shows have been very subpar borderline weird imo. So, I am very much looking forward to blasting it and dancing in the living room with the kids. When interviewed 49ers linebacker Fred Warner said he thinks Usher will open with OMG and I think he might be right! I wonder if he will have Ludacris, Lil Jon or will.i.am join him on the stage.

We rewatched Super Bowl 54 the other night and while I remember the 49ers being in the lead for most of the game, I had forgotten how quickly and how late in the game things took a turn for the worse. Garoppolo was playing great actually and Mahomes was not, surprisingly – throwing two interceptions. Things were going great for the Faithful, until they weren’t. It was honestly even more heartbreaking than I remember. The 49ers had it. There are 11 San Francisco 49ers returning to the Super Bowl from SB LIV. I think they will use the fuel from their heartbreak and redeem themselves.

The Niners are returning with more weapons, including two of the league’s best in Brock Purdy and Christan McCaffrey. As we should all know by now these guys are first class leaders and game changers. Brock Purdy has totally out done himself by returning to the Super Bowl the season right after his torn UCL. That is honestly unreal if you think about it. I have one busy month and it seems to take me two months to recover, no injuries haha. I love Purdy’s casual and calm presence. He seems peaceful, happy, and confident in himself, which is really refreshing to see, especially these days. I do not understand the hate and disrespect he is receiving. Don’t we usually love underdogs? I think some of it is because he is a part of such an elite franchise in the 49ers. For example, I think things would be different if he was on the Titans or Panthers. I also think the fact that he flies under the radar with his demeanor and style might not give the people the razzle dazzle they seem to be looking for. I am sorry, but I would take simple classy “boring” style over loud and flashy any day. Who knows why so many outsiders continue to doubt him. One thing is for sure though if he can take down Mahomes he will solidify himself as a 49er legend for eternity.

Back to the game at hand, I think we will be in for a real treat. The 49ers talent and chemistry are on another level. The Chiefs are an elite juggernaut. It is sure to be an epic show down in the Mojave Desert. I cannot wait! Bang bang!!!
